Enter and View: Orchard House Nursing Home

Our report following a visit to the Orchard House Nursing Home in the Penn area of Wolverhampton, which provides residental nursing care.

This was an unannounced Enter and View visit which was conducted in response to feedback Healthwatch Wolverhampton received about the home. Social workers are having problems accessing service-users. Healthwatch is to query Mental Capacity assessments, in particular how long people are waiting for them as it is reported no one is doing them. Healthwatch Wolverhampton also undertook a visit to Eversleigh Care Centre in November 2015 where various recommendations were made, so this was an opportunity to revisit.

Summary of Findings

Specific recommendations of this visit included:

  • Empty the exterior ashtray on a regular basis.
  • Consider including the 15 minutes spent on the handover process as part of the job role that is paid for.
  • Ensure that all staff wear ID badges at all times.
  • Consider introducing colour to areas that are predominantly used by those with dementia.

This report was produced by the previous Healthwatch Wolverhampton service provider, Engaging Communities Solutions CIC.
